Food Security

Ockenden has been working in stabilizing food security in a number of areas in Northwest Cambodia over the last 5 years. Cases highlighting the impact of these programmes are in a number of targeted areas where our partners have been working in since 2001. The population were expecting around 40% food security per year which has now improved to approximately 85% per year through Ockenden intervention. Further, the village members now have the capacity and time to enhance both the quantity and quality (i.e. diversification) of their agricultural production through improved community mobilisation and coordination.

The project focuses on several major areas of intervention including agriculture, income generation, activities enhancing the status of women and capacity building activities for partners. These focus areas combined together will work to build opportunities for the target communities to build food security and income with which to invest further enhancing their livelihoods. Below these are some of the activities whic had been implementing in the Norwest Cambodia, however, Ockenden Cambodia is also interested and welcome for more potential partners or donors in further extending its operation in food security to the Northeast Cambodia such as Ratanakiri Province.

Our Food Security Programs include:
Self Help Group (SHG)- provision of micro-credit.
Agriculture- provision of agricultural and livestock inputs.
Cow Bank- establishment of cow bank committees and provide assistance for villagers and communities who need cows for their works. Click here for a brief case study of how Cow Ends Poverty.
Community Forestry- establishment community forestry where communities have an ownsership of their forests and protect for their use.
Family Vegetable Gardening- provide skills and techniques for the communities in vegetable plantations.
Capacity building- (a) provision of management skills to Partners, Villagers and Ockenden staff. Also, Good Governance and Decentralisation.
